News February 2015 | Casting process simulation from one mould

Dear Sir or Madam,

A very warm welcome to you with news from the Bright World of Metals and GIFA.com.

Those who have sat in a flight simulator with a fear of flying know that this kind of simulation can appear to be terrifyingly real. However, that is what a simulation is all about – not only for the well-being of travel enthusiasts who hope to cure their acrophobia, but also for engineers from various industries to make their work easier.

For example, in the foundry industry, casting processes can be optimised by simulating a production process on the PC. The advantages: To understand the casting and its properties better and to save costs. Please read more in the Topic of the Month in February.

Enjoy reading!

P.S.: It is not much longer and GIFAs doors will be open from 16 to 20 June 2015. Thus, the online shop is now open and you can comfortably order your eTicket with its many benefits!

Photos Topic of the Month

Metal casting is amongst the oldest production processes of mankind. For a long time, casting processes and cast products were exclusively further developed through experimentation and experience. By modelling current, heat flow and tensions, today, the casting process simulation gives a deep understanding of the ongoing processes.

Casting process simulation is the computer aided modelling and analysis of the processes during casting, with the help of a special calculation software. It defines the process sequence of casting and solidification, based on physical-mathematical models, as accurately as possible, with boundary conditions for the calculation.

NeoRealismo – the new photography in Italy, 1932-1960

Pieces from the exhibition
Names of film directors such as Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini and Vittorio De Sica characterised Italian neo-realism in the area of film. The Italian cultural movement, however, was also reflected in photography. This is shown in an exhibition at NRW Forum Düsseldorf with photographs by amateurs and professionals from the period from 1932 to 1960. They show reality, photographs off the beaten path of Bella Italia.
