The Bühler Group aims to address these issues and respond to them with sustainable, commercially attractive solutions. Die Casting is one of the 12 Bühler Business Areas.

An important objective for ensuring the attractiveness of the die-casting process is the cost-effective, efficient and sustainable production of light-metal components. Bühler AG is working on its vision of the “Digital Cell”. It differs from today’s conventional die-casting system by ensuring complete and consistent data acquisition at both the cell and process level. This, combined with the latest technologies for improving system availability, reducing cycle time and ensuring consistent quality, can lead to cost savings of up to 40%.

The concept of the “Digital Cell” has been tested in a process-oriented feasibility study at the technical level. It aimed to explore the optimization potential of the die-casting process with the target of 0% scrap, 40% less cycle time and 24/7 uptime. The first solutions have been tested with beta-users.

Using the latest technologies and increasing the level of automation through artificial intelligence and machine learning, Bühler is getting closer to the “Digital Cell”. The goal is a significant improvement in terms of energy-efficiency, material and resource-saving, to enhance the production of tomorrow.
