Hasçelik, a leading manufacturer of SBQ and bright steel bars in Turkey, has produced the first steel on Tenova's new liquid steel production line at its next-generation steelworks in Bilecik. The new facility was brought to life with an investment of proximately 150 million euros.
Equipped with state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology and designed with a focus on sustainable production, the new steel mill marks a significant milestone not only for Hasçelik but also for the broader Turkish industrial sector, elevating industry standards in quality, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability, Tenova said. According to Tenova, Hasçelik’s new steel mill investment stands out for its digitalized, automation-driven, and energy-efficient infrastructure. As part of the project, Tenova implemented its Consteel Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Furnace (LF), and Twin Vacuum Degasser (VD) systems. The company, the new EAF features the advanced non-contact electromagnetic stirring technology, developed jointly with ABB and tailored to continuously charge the EAF, therefore increasing productivity, energy and resource efficiency, Tenova said. The Bilecik facility has been designed to provide flexible and rapid responses to the growing demand for specialty steel in both domestic and international markets. Naci Faydasıçok, Chairman of the Board at Hasçelik, said: “This investment represents one of the most strategic steps Hasçelik has taken toward the future. The steel mill now operational in Bilecik will not only increase our production capacity but also usher in a new era in our steel production capabilities.” Once fully operational, the project is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs in the region.
