Feralpi Stahl has equipped its rolling mill B in Riesa with low-emission and energy-saving technologies. With the new spooler coil, Feralpi Stahl presents an innovative product premiere that is set to revolutionise steel production and further processing in the construction industry. The order was undertaken by Italian plant manufacturer Danieli and sets new standards with regard to production efficiency and decarbonisation.
Rolling mill B in Riesa, which Feralpi Stahl claims to be the first Scope 1 emissions-free rolling mill in Germany, was connected directly to an existing conticaster via a 300-metre-long hot roller table. The conventional gas heating was replaced by induction heating, which does not cause any direct CO2 emissions. Feralpi Stahl performs endless rolling with a K-welder from Danieli. The continuous welding of billets drastically reduces maintenance times by 50%, increases the efficiency of the system and lowers the operating costs. The rolling mill consists of 16 housing-less stands, a six-stage finishing block with multiple drives and a spooler line. The spooler produces bars with a diameter of 8 to 25 mm and hot-rolled spooler coils weighing up to 8 tonnes. According to Feralpi Stahl, the new product is more than just a coil. The hot-rolled spooler represents a new generation of reinforcing steel in a compactly coiled format weighing between 2.5 and 8 tonnes. With this new product, Feralpi Stahl is targeting forward-looking players in the construction industry. Source:Feralpi Stahl, Danieli
